Getting started
How to start a 30-day walking challenge
This free challenge helps you practise a consistent walking routine. It tracks whether you met your chosen extra daily steps target, rather than promising a particular weight-loss result.
- Find your baseline. Check your usual daily steps using your phone or activity tracker.
- Choose a manageable increase. Enter an extra-step goal above your normal activity, starting small if you are new to walking.
- Record each completed day. When you meet your extra-step goal, select Mark Today Complete.
- Review your progress. Use the 30-day grid and streak summary to stay motivated. A missed day is a chance to restart, not a failure.
Example daily walking target
If you typically walk 4,000 steps a day and decide to add 1,000 steps, aim for approximately 5,000 total daily steps. The challenge target field should contain 1,000 extra steps, not 5,000 total steps.
Your challenge data is stored locally in this browser. Clearing browser storage or switching devices can remove your saved progress. Choose a target appropriate for your fitness and health.
Stay Consistent
Make Your Steps Easier
Walk Earlier
Getting some steps earlier in the day can make the target feel easier.
Split Your Walks
Your steps don't need to happen in one long walk.
Track Your Steps
Use your phone or wearable to keep an eye on your daily movement.
Aim for Consistency
Missing one day doesn't mean the challenge has failed. Keep going.
Safety: Increase your activity gradually and choose an amount appropriate for your current fitness and health. Stop exercising if you feel unwell. If you have a health condition, injury, or concerns about increasing your activity, seek appropriate medical advice.
